A journalist’s take on AIvid

27 Feb 2025

So far, we have shown our tool, AIvid in over 30 newsrooms, and publishers already test it for everything from cooking recipes and sports highlights to resurfacing decades of evergreen content. Some are even exploring the possibility of generating 100,000+ videos from their archives. A fascinating challenge – one we’re ready to take on.

We also asked several journalists to share how they find AIVid compared to the regular work with news video editing – and here’s what we learned:

“I worked with video editing for several years and I know how labor-intensive it can be. To be honest, the process has not changed much over the years. When it comes to breaking news, it means working with footage from reporters or agency feeds: manually cutting clips in Final Cut, exporting, then importing everything into our CMS.

For evergreen pieces, the process is even more daunting, because first you need to craft the perfect, concise description that hits all the key points. Then you hunt down images, piecing together the video manually, exporting, and finally importing it again.

So, a 3‑minute video meant around 1.5 hours of work."

"In this light, AIvid really seems like a game-changer."

"With AIvid, I can now request a video in our CMS, using an already published article or a pasted text. I need to choose the slides and pictures but if they are already in our library, thankfully it’s an easy thing. It’s especially useful also with photo galleries we get from agencies, such as interesting nature phenomena, red carpet looks, or photos from rescue actions.

AIvid generates a script for me, and then allows me to edit it easily if needed. I can also swap out images, add more dynamic transitions or change the duration, but the donkey work is done and automated.

A cool feature is also that AIvid creates a synchronized voiceover and on-screen captions that match the narration, making the whole video come alive.

Once I finalize the script, it’s rendered into an mp4 video that carries our branding elements – logo, colors, fonts, so everything feels cohesively ours.

The benefits are clear to me:

Speed: I can now have a ready mp4 video in just 5 minutes after publishing an article.

Freshness: It transforms existing content into a dynamic new format.

Multilingual capability: If I need to transform a Polish article into an English video, the voiceovers and subtitles adjust automatically.

Versatility: Whether it’s news, evergreen topics, politics, sports, or lifestyle, AiVid adapts with tailored templates for every format and platform, be it vertical, horizontal, or square."

"“Perhaps my favorite part is how easy it is to use. A quick 15‑minute training session was all it took for me to feel at home with the system, and I love that I can preview videos live and make adjustments on the fly – no advanced technical skills required".

"In short, AiVid has not only slashed the time I spend on video editing but also refreshed the way we tell stories in the newsroom. It lets me focus more on the narrative and less on the technical hurdles, and that’s something I’m genuinely excited about."

"I only wish it had more features that allow for variations in slide transitions and speed, to make it all look more Tik‑Tok like – that’s what the audiences now really want. More and more people just follow us on social media, without visiting the websites, and they love quick recipes, handy tips or encapsulated stories.

I find AIvid great for mass-producing high-quality, branded videos quickly, it is a more generic solution designed for volume. This means that sometimes a bit of extra tweaking is needed to capture that particular vibe our audiences crave. And while this automation is powerful, sometimes tailoring the video to the unique consumption habits of our viewers is essential”.

Recent updates on AIvid

So, where are we with AIvid now? Everything is mapped out and development is running full speed, and we’re shifting our focus to what really matters – the final output: the generated video. As you can see from the opinion above – and as we know from the feedback we gathered – the video needs to be more dynamic, more Tik-Tok style.

To address this, we ran an internal workshop, bringing in ideas from our power users – including social media creators. We mapped out areas to explore, and our plans include:

  • Reworking the slides to introduce more formats and layouts.
  • Introducing more diverse and attractive transitions between slides (pan movements, fade-in and fade-out, etc.).
  • Making animations faster and more dynamic.
  • Making the voiceover faster and sharpening the cuts.

Our general plan is to offer more settings choices – music, text animations, speed, and dynamics – to better adjust the video to the content it conveys. We’re deep in the experimentation phase now – testing, iterating, and pushing for that extra polish.

We also discovered that every media group operates differently, each has a unique audience, channels, and editorial style. This is one of the reasons why automating news video production at scale isn’t simple, and why many publishers haven’t fully committed to automation yet.

As we test AIvid with publishers in Poland, Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, the USA, and the UAE, we’ve concluded that customization is key. From tone of voice to tech capabilities and content libraries, a one‑size‑fits‑all solution simply won’t work.

A recurring challenge is the lack of well-structured video and image databases that automation can use to swiftly generate videos. But the potential is massive. Publishers are already testing AIvid for everything from cooking recipes and sports highlights to resurfacing decades of evergreen content. Some are even exploring the possibility of generating 100,000+ videos from their archives – a fascinating challenge that we’re ready to take on.

And, importantly, automation isn’t just about volume. It’s about precision – crafting videos that match audience habits, expectations, and consumption patterns across platforms and regions.

We have more discussions ahead – with publishers in Norway, Slovakia, Croatia, and beyond. The enthusiasm is huge. So are the challenges. And we’re here for both.
